I’m Dahlia Divine, and I am the naked lady behind this blog. Hailing from British Columbia, Canada, I found myself wanting a platform where I could share my musings and ideas. I am an ardent feminist and enemy to the patriarchy; I’m also a burlesque performer and part-time nudist. For me, these things are all related. Loving myself and my body, sharing it in a very public way, and being exposed literally and figuratively is in many ways an expression of my feminist ideals. I have found the courage and freedom to be myself, and will do everything I can to help others have that same opportunity. There is also something very empowering about choosing to be exposed. In today’s world, people, especially women, are turned into objects and sexualized without consent. I feel like I am taking back some of the power, and exposing what I want and to whom, on my own terms.
While I am by no means an expert on feminism, I like to think I’ve learned a few things on my own journey to feministhood. I have a BA in History and and MA in Human Security and Peacebuilding, and I am currently in my final year of a Social Work degree. I’ve worked abroad with survivors of intergenerational prostitution, as well as at home as a rape crisis counselor. My interests are varied, but include international development, social justice, politics, and, obviously, feminism.
My vices include Netflix, shopping, sushi, excessive chapstick usage, and refined carbohydrates. I love reading, my dog and my cat, blogging, being bossy, dancing about in my skivvies, and anything bedazzled.
I hope this gives you a bit of insight into my worldview and my approach to feminism. I love to discuss and have my ideas challenged, so please comment and engage whenever you feel inspired to do so!
